Skin Cancer Awareness Month

The rates of skin cancer are on the rise. Skin Cancer Awareness Month is a time to create greater awareness of the dangers of skin cancer, which can help save lives.

Prevention is key. Steps that you can take to prevent skin cancer include protecting your skin year-round and performing skin self-exams on a regular basis.

Melanoma is the deadliest form of skin cancer. Early detection is key when it is most treatable. Learn how to recognize it using the AAD’s ABCDEs of Melanoma:

If a mole or a pigmented spot is Asymmetrical; has an irregular shaped Border; has varying Colors; is approximately the Diameter of a pencil eraser; or Evolves in shape, size or color. Also, be mindful of moles or spots that itch, bleed or change.

If you notice a suspicious mole or spot, be sure to get checked by a board-certified dermatologist.

Skin cancer screenings are incredibly important in order to catch and treat potential issues like cancerous moles as early as possible.

Fraxel for Non-Melanoma Skin Cancer
Research conducted by a team of researchers from Massachusetts General Hospital and published in Dermatologic Surgery has shown that Nonablative fractional lasers may help prevent basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma (aka keratinocyte carcinoma) – which are the most common types of non-melanoma skin cancer.
